Madi Erwin | Senior

"Thanks wind. we love you."

Sometimes this phrase was sarcastic, and sometimes we really meant it. Lubbock's wind is unpredictable. It's not a gentle breeze from one direction, but a ridiculous and Twister-like 30mph gust from EVERY direction. haha.. It's pretty hard to prepare for, but if you go into a shoot with a positive attitude, it can be pretty hilarious. Madi & I fought the wind, and we genuinely thanked it when it worked for us (like a model with her fake wind in a studio). Madi was quite the model. When I asked for a serious face, she said, "CAN I do a serious face??! Pfff. Duh! Next top model.. Tyra-style right here." hahah.. she is one funny girl. Our conversations would go from serious to laughing in half a second, and I love that. Check out this joyful senior girl:

Madi's hero is her mom. She brought a tiny photo of the two of them when she was little. SO cute. Guess where she got her red hair?

Madi's dream is to be a sportscaster for the Texas Rangers. What a cool goal. I think she'll reach it. I mean.. who wouldn't want to see this face on TV? ;)

Jared & Britni | Engaged

I drove to the Britni's aunt's ranch in the middle of Nowhere, Tx. I love going new places and taking in the view on the way, but on this particular drive, there were acres and acres of black fields completely consumed by fires. :/ Texas has had wilfires this year like we've never seen before.. eating up hundreds of thousands of acres of land. Seeing these dry, black fields was depressing and just.. dark looking. I finally made it to the ranch, shot the engagement session with a sweet couple, Jared & Britni. After the shoot, the sun started to set. The light changed every second, and the painting was gorgeous. I haven't seen a sunset that breathtaking in a long long time. There were no buildings to block the sky and swirls of pinks & oranges danced with the dark fog on the horizon. The haze made the colors even more vibrant. I stood in awe, and Britni told me that the sunsets have been extremely gorgeous lately because of all the smoke in the air. I thought that was weird at first. How can smoke make something beautiful? ...but then I just smiled. :) i had impatiently driven through cruddy nothingness.. dry, sad, black.. but now i stood in front of something that brought an itty bitty tear to my right eye. He makes beautiful things out of the dust. On the drive home, I stopped and took pictures of anything and everything. It was a pretty perfect evening. Congratulations to Jared & Britni!! Here are some images from the day:

Grace McGinnis | Senior

After 2 days of driving to California, I am finally settled and back on the ball with the business. You'll be seeing a lot more blog posts from me. YAY! As I was prepping for this blog post, I laughed out loud at so many funny moments we had on her Senior shoot. She is a total goofball, so photographing her was easy-peasy. She is natural and playful. You'll get one funny story because there are way too many to count. When we were shooting at the hill (1 of 2 hills in flat LBK), she was wayyy far away, and I told her to face the other direction like she was looking over the hill. She was posing, facing the other way, and grinning ear to ear at nothing. I begin snapping pictures, and I faintly hear her yelling voice: "I JUST SMILED!" Maybe (probably) it was a moment where you had to be present at to appreciate. I laughed pretty hard. Grace is a crazy, energetic, bright character. We HAD to shoot in her room because everything about it defined her. Take a look:

So I have a problem actually verbalizing what I'm envisioning, and sometimes I just completely fumble over my words. In this case, I asked Grace to sit cross-eyed. haha.. I think I was trying to be "politically correct" and say "criss-cross-applesauce" like all the kids are these days, but "Indian Style" was in my head, and it just came out "cross-eyed". Grace obediently gave me this face. 8) Love her!
